Established in 2021 by architects Sarah Alhomaidah and Dunia Abushanab, Studio Nama brings a fresh perspective to architecture in the Kuwait design scene. Both with extensive careers in interior and exterior architecture spanning Kuwait and Los Angeles, their professional background drives the studio’s design philosophy and the methodology used in designing and building spaces. With a wide range of skills, the studio’s talents merge individuality and functionality to create spaces that are entirely unique yet highly functional.
Derived from the Arabic word for growth, “Nama” reflects the studio’s ethos of designing spaces that do not feel alienated, but rather grow with their evolving environment. Our design philosophy revolves around implementing high quality finishes to create unique spaces while maintaining elements of comfort and coziness. We believe in utilizing a holistic approach by intertwining all elements of architecture, interior and landscape design to create spaces that harmoniously evolve along with their surroundings and occupants.
At Nama we maintain the principle of experimenting with our design process to push the boundaries of architecture and have the advantage of taking a project beyond what it can be. We do this by responding to spaces creatively and directly to maximize their potential rather than taking away from them. Our goal is to continue to create more cohesive spaces that bring peace and resonate with our clients, and in doing so we hope to encourage other designers and clients to challenge their perceptions of what a space should be.

SARAH ALHOMAIDAHCo-Founder / Creative Director
Sarah Alhomaidah is an experienced architect with an outstanding eye for blending materials. She first graduated from Kuwait University with a Bachelor of interior architecture before working for eight years in a leading architecture company in Kuwait. Due to her belief in a holistic approach to architecture, she decided to pursue a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Sarah’s passion for spaces and architecture combined with her experience allowed her to immerse herself in the discipline and achieve a high level of finesse across a variety of projects. She is endlessly intrigued by people and the way they interact with their environment, which serves as her primary source of inspiration. Her involvement in the design process showcases her innate talent for seamlessly incorporating materials to produce distinct spaces, evoke emotions, and inspire connections. In a bold career move, Sarah decided to open Studio Nama to make her mark on the architectural scene in Kuwait. Opening her own firm did not quench her curiosity, but rather further provoked it. Quickly gaining a diverse client portfolio, Sarah has proven herself as a versatile designer who meets each project with care and precision. Her approach to architecture is characterized by meticulously incorporating materials, textures, and colors to create a harmony between the form and function in each design. She focuses on creating a holistic experience for clients and cares about how a space can become nostalgic to them. |
Dunia AbushanabCo-Founder / Design Director
Palestinian architect Dunia Abushanab is a design visionary with extensive experience and offers a fresh perspective in her approach to architecture and interior design. She obtained a degree in architecture from the American University of Sharjah, and later pursued her master’s degree in Suprastudio from UCLA in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Kuwait, Dunia has worked in various parts of the world allowing her to excel in effectively combining cultural elements and aesthetics to create visually pleasing, yet functional spaces. Dunia started her career by working on large projects at a prominent architecture firm in Kuwait, most notably the Andalous commercial complex in Hawally. During her time in L.A., she has gained experience working on designing high-end residential homes and beach houses in Malibu and Santa Monica. Dunia’s career highlights her expertise and the range of skills she has acquired. Fueled by her passion for creative solutions, Dunia’s approach to design is characterized by balancing innovation and functionality and persists in her pursuit to improve her craft. She thoroughly understands what a project aims to achieve and its characteristics before initiating a design process. Her belief that every project is unique drives her to practice outside the box thinking to solve problems. With this mindset she approaches each project with an open mind and continues to question the limits of architecture and design. |
